Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does MEC offer a student discount?
Yes. Students get 15% off regular-priced items, verified through Student Beans or SPC. You must be a MEC Rewards member for the discount to apply, it cannot be combined with any other offer or used on gift cards, and a long list of brands is excluded, including Arc'teryx, Garmin, Blundstone, Black Diamond and Brooks. With SPC you can also redeem in store by showing your digital membership and student ID at the cash desk.
-
How can I get a discount at MEC?
MEC runs a permanent Deals hub with brand-level reductions, currently up to 50% off MEC Label and up to 25-30% off names like Fjallraven, La Sportiva and Scarpa. There is also a loyalty sign-up bonus giving 20% off, limited to one use per customer.
-
Can I combine MEC promo codes?
No. MEC promotions cannot be combined with other promotions or discounts, including the ACMG and Canadian Armed Forces and First Responders appreciation discounts, and codes cannot be applied retroactively.
-
What is excluded from MEC promotions?
Bikes and boats are excluded from most MEC offers, including the loyalty sign-up bonus, and gift cards never qualify. Individual promotions carry their own brand exclusions, so check the terms attached to the code you are using.
-
Will there be a 2026 Black Friday sale at MEC?
Yes, MEC runs a Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale every year, both in stores and online. Black Friday is usually the last Friday in November, but MEC has previously started its sale about a week earlier and kept it going until just after Cyber Monday. Past discounts reached up to 50–60% off, and members have also received an extra 10% off on top. Sign up for MEC emails on its website to be first in line. A calendar reminder for the third week of November will help you catch the start.
